Course Overview

SIR20216 Certificate II in Retail Services is designed to address foundational retail skills for existing and future industry employees. Throughout the course participants will apply retail operational tasks and provide initial customer service.

This involves providing preliminary advice to customers and functioning under supervision, as part of a retail team, recognising the limitations of your job role and referring customers to more senior staff when appropriate.

Duration: 6 – 12 months subject to completion of assessments

Audience

Frontline retail team members, customer service assistants and point-of-sale operators who use a defined and limited range of operational skills to undertake workplace activities. They are involved mainly in routine and repetitive tasks and work under the direct supervision of others.

Job Outcomes

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a Retail Sales Assistant, Retail Assistant Manager, Retail Merchandiser, Customer Service Representative, Retail Team Member, and Stock Clerk/Storeperson.

Course Information

Frontline retail team members, customer service assistants and point-of-sale operators who use a defined and limited range of operational skills to undertake workplace activities. They are involved mainly in routine and repetitive tasks and work under the direct supervision of others.

Students are required to:

  • Be 15 years of age or over at the time of course commencement
  • Provide evidence of Australian Citizenship or Permanent residency
  • Provide proof of identity, Photo ID
  • Have completed Australian Year 10 or equivalent

All students are required to complete a brief Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) self-assessment (and, if needed, an LLND Assessment Test) as part of the enrolment process. This helps ensure the course is a good fit and that you have the skills needed to successfully participate. Where appropriate, support options may be discussed based on your results.

Expected Levels of Foundational Skills

Learners need access to suitable technology to complete the course. This includes a laptop, desktop computer, or another device with a reliable internet connection and browsing capabilities and word processing programs like Word and spreadsheet applications such as Excel, as well as an installed PDF Reader.

 

This qualification will be delivered through blended delivery including classroom and workplace-based learning.

6-12 months subject to completion of assessments (up to 2 years may be required to achieve the learning outcomes when undertaken as part of an Apprenticeship or Traineeship)

  • work effectively in a service environment
  • advise on products and services
  • identify and respond to security risks

Upon successful completion of all learning activities and assessments for this course, learners will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification in SIR20216 Certificate II Retail Services or a Statement of Attainment for the competencies they have completed.

This course has a standard enrolment fee of $4,000 per person.

Funding may be available for eligible Apprentices and Trainees who are Full Time Employees (and have been employed for less than 3 months) or Part Time Employees (working a minimum of 21 hours a week and have been employed for less than 12 months). Contact our team for more information.
