Course Overview
The BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is designed to educate and assist individuals who work in work health and safety roles. These roles may include but are not limited to supervisors, WHS personnel and workers in other WHS-related roles. This course provides participants with the relevant skill sets to monitor, implement and contribute to WHS within the workplace.
Duration: 12 – 24 months subject to completion of assessments

WHS personnel, and workers in other WHS-related roles who manage risks effectively, apply relevant WHS laws, and contribute to WHS within the workplace in known or changing contexts with established parameters.

Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. Possible job titles include: Work Health and Safety Systems Officer, Work Health and Safety Coordinator and Safety Health and Wellbeing Advisor.
Course Information
Individuals working in a work health and safety (WHS) role who provide a broad range of technical knowledge and skills, and have some limited responsibility for the output of others. WHS personnel, and workers in other WHS-related roles who manage risks effectively, apply relevant WHS laws, and contribute to WHS within the workplace in known or changing contexts with established parameters.
Students are required to:
- Be 15 years of age or over at the time of course commencement
- Provide evidence of Australian Citizenship or Permanent residency
- Provide proof of identity, Photo ID
- Have completed Australian Year 10 or equivalent
All students are required to complete a brief Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) self-assessment (and, if needed, an LLND Assessment Test) as part of the enrolment process. This helps ensure the course is a good fit and that you have the skills needed to successfully participate. Where appropriate, support options may be discussed based on your results.
To enrol in this course, students must have completed a Certificate III or higher qualification, or have at least 2 years of workplace experience in a role that involves written communication, reporting, or documentation. This experience helps ensure students are prepared for the communication and problem-solving demands of WHS roles, including interpreting legislation, preparing reports, and participating in workplace safety procedures. Access to workplaces and existing WHS-related roles is recommended.

Expected Levels of Foundational Skills
Learners need access to suitable technology to complete the course. This includes a laptop, desktop computer, or another device with a reliable internet connection and browsing capabilities and word processing programs like Word and spreadsheet applications such as Excel, as well as an installed PDF Reader.
Students will also need regular access to a laptop, desktop computer or device with an adequate camera to undertake video calls/recordings for assessments as required.
This qualification will be delivered through blended delivery including online and workplace-based learning.
NSW and ACT
12 – 24 months subject to completion of assessments (up to 3 or 4 years may be required to achieve the learning outcomes when undertaken as part of an Apprenticeship or Traineeship)

- assist with WHS compliance
- contribute to WHS risk management
- contribute to workplace incident response
- analyse and present research information
- implement and monitor sustainable work practices

Upon successful completion of all learning activities and assessments for this course, learners will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification in BSB41419 Certificate IV in WHS or a Statement of Attainment for the competencies they have completed.
This course has a standard enrolment fee of $6,500 per person.
Funding may be available for eligible Apprentices and Trainees who are Full Time Employees (and have been employed for less than 3 months) or Part Time Employees (working a minimum of 21 hours a week and have been employed for less than 12 months). Contact our team for more information.
